Volunteers set up fund-raising website for Leni’s campaign

VICE President Leni Robredo’s camp has set up a website to raise funds for her presidential campaign in the absence of a political machinery which she had when she ran as the vice presidential candidate of the Aquino administration back in 2016 under the Liberal Party.

Robredo’s spokesman Ibarra Gutierrez said volunteers of Team Leni Robredo launched the teamlenirobredo.com last Tuesday after Robredo said lack of resources and the absence of a political machinery will not be a problem for her presidential run next year as long as she enjoys the people’s support.

Robredo is running as an independent candidate although she is LP chairman.

Gutierrez told a TV interview the website is experiencing technical issues because of the overwhelming number of people who are donating money to Robredo’s “people’s campaign.” He said the system is being fixed.

The former Akbayan party-list lawmaker said the website will have a “transparent mechanism” and an audit report to show where the donations are being spent, pursuant to election laws.

Robredo earlier said she does not have the resources to match her rivals’ because she did not prepare for a presidential run. Her original plan was to either take a rest from politics or run for a local position in Camarines Sur and that was why she tried hard to unify all anti-administration forces, holding consultations with other presidential aspirants — Senators Panfilo Lacson and Manny Pacquiao, and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

Gutierrez brushed aside Domagoso’s attacks against Robredo, saying the Vice President would rather focus on work than trade barbs with the mayor who accused her if being a “fake leader” with a “fake color” for using the color pink instead of the LP’s signature yellow.

“We don’t pay attention to those things. We’ve been hit left and right in the past five years.

VP Leni has been insulted, been called names and became the subject of fake news and lies… And despite of it all, she remains focused on her work for the country),” he said in Filipino.
