    Toyota donates learning modules 

    Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation (TMPF), the social and humanitarian arm of Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP), continue to support its adopted school, Pulong Sta. Cruz Elementary School (PSCES) as it transitioned into the new normal mode of learning. With pandemic guidelines disallowing lower education levels to hold face-to-face classes, PSCES shifted to online and modular learning.

    To support PSCES, Toyota donated 46 brand-new laptop computers for the individual use of teachers in preparing for and holding online classes. Moreover, a total of 4,000 printed learning modules were donated for use of students in the kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2 levels.

    The modules covered subjects in Mathematics, Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH), Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP), and Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE). The printouts are distributed to parents of students every week and the accomplished sheets are submitted for teachers’ evaluation. To further support PSCES in its fight against COVID-19, other items such as thermal scanners, face shields, alcohol, antibacterial/germicidal soaps, disinfectant sprays, bleach solutions, disposable gloves, foot baths, spray tanks, and mops were also provided.  

    Logistics opportunities amid the  pandemic

    Ninja Van Philippines also introduced Ninja Direct, a platform that allows online sellers to source products from different countries.

    Panasonic pits technology vs virus

    Panasonic Manufacturing Philippines Corp. (PMPC) announced the availability in the Philippines of products equipped with nanoe X technology which has known benefits of hydroxyl radicals against the novel coronavirus .

    nanoe X technology, the original ionizer to generate “nano-sized atomized water particles” was developed by Panasonic Corp. It is an electrostatic atomization technology, that collects invisible moisture in the air and applies high voltage to it to produce “hydroxyl radicals contained in water”. The decisive factor is the existence of hydroxyl radicals inside nanoe X. Hydroxyl radicals are characterized by being strongly oxidative and highly reactive.

    Panasonic air conditioners and other Panasonic appliances equipped with nanoe X contain about 4.8 trillion per second hydroxyl radicals. Thanks to the huge quantity of hydroxyl radicals contained in water, nanoe X can inhibit surface-level pollutants by penetrating deep into fabric materials and inhibiting pathogenic microorganism such as bacteria and viruses, mould, allergen, pollen, and hazardous substances.

    Cigarette alternative launched

    Grab partnership empowers farmers

    GrabPay, Grab’s e-wallet cashless solution, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2, and  agri-ecommerce platform, Mayani have forged a  partnership to create broader market access and safe and seamless e-payments solutions to farming communities and agripreneurs across Region 2 (Cagayan Valley Region).

    Mayani will consolidate and activate a whole range of produce from 4,761 farmers in Region 2 and manage orders through its e-commerce platform with GrabPay as its digital payments solution.  GrabPay will also be providing wider market access to Mayani’s farming communities through a five-day campaign on the Grab app starting November 5, and users can also earn GrabRewards points whenever they use GrabPay to shop for fresh produce on-site.

    DTI Region 2 will facilitate region-wide linkage of Cagayan Valley Region’s farmers cooperatives and agri-MSMEs to the Mayani platform.

    New tools in the job market

    LinkedIn has launched a tool called, Career Explorer which will help job seekers identify new career paths that require the most skills overlapping with their current role as well as new skills they will need to acquire in order to excel in a different role and industry.

    Through the interactive dashboard, job seekers will be able to discover LinkedIn Learning courses or learning paths they can take to build the necessary skills.

    The tool will also connect them to open jobs and other LinkedIn members in similar roles, who may be able to offer career guidance.

    Other tools that help job seekers land new employment opportunities include: Skills Assessments which allow members to validate and showcase their skills to recruiters and their network, helping them stand out amongst candidates and become more discoverable to recruiters; Interview preparation tools for in-demand roles which include commonly asked interview questions, answer guidance and tips, as well as instant feedback on recorded practice answers; #OpenToWork profile photo frame which allows job seekers to indicate that they are actively looking for work through a simple LinkedIn profile photo frame.

    To encourage more employers to hire based on skills, Linkedin has made the following available to small-to-medium sized businesses and hiring managers: Freemium jobs for SMBs: Small businesses can now create job postings on LinkedIn for free, easing the hiring process and expanding the number of job opportunities on LinkedIn; and #Hiring profile photo frame: Hiring managers can use the #Hiring profile photo frame to signal that they are hiring for open roles, allowing job seekers to quickly identify who within their network is hiring.

    DOT, TPB launch official travel app

    The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines launched  last October 30 Travel Philippines, the country’s official travel  app which provides users access to the latest travel advisories and safety guidelines in various destinations that have reopened to tourism.

    The easy-to-use platform allows users to create itineraries for their future trips, find up-to-date information on their favorite tourist attractions, and securely store digital copies of travel documents.

    DOT and TPB developed Travel Philippines in partnership with inclusion tech venture builder HIMO Global Inc.

    Within Travel Philippines is an extensive database of various destinations and attractions that are reopening after the COVID-19 community quarantines. At launch, Travel Philippines features six major tourist destinations: Palawan, Boracay, Bohol, Baguio, Ilocos Norte, and Metro Manila.

    The app will be regularly updated with the latest information on these six locations as well as more travel destinations around the Philippines.  Travel Philippines will also contain the latest health and safety protocols being implemented within these locations, sourced directly from their local tourism offices.

    ICTSI gets new equipment in push for sustainability

     International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) continues its push for environmentally sustainable technology in its operations with the recent delivery of eight new hybrid rubber-tired gantries (RTG) for its flagship Manila International Container Terminal (MICT). Manufactured by Mitsui Engineering & Ship- building Co. Ltd. (MES) of Japan, the Mitsui Li-ion Hybrid RTGs are expected to reduce emissions by more than 50 percent compared to the previous RTGs at the country’s largest and most important international trading gateway.

    Bataan taps PayMaya for disbursement of rice subsidy

    The provincial government of Bataan has partnered with PayMaya to facilitate digital disbursements of rice subsidies to its more than 8,000 beneficiaries.

    The process for the distribution of the subsidy had been greatly simplified.

    Beneficiaries can the funds right away not only for the purchase of rice but also for other needs of their families like groceries and essential items. PayMaya funds can also be used to buy mobile load, pay bills and can be encashed via Smart Padala or Bancnet ATMs.

    PayMaya’s PayOut disbursement platform is the same solution utilized by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Social Security System (SSS), as well as the cities of Manila, Pasig, Caloocan, Mandaluyong, and Quezon City, among others, in delivering digital financial aid to their constituents.

    PayMaya is the only end-to-end digital payments ecosystem enabler in the Philippines with platforms and services that cut across consumers, merchants, and government.
