THE International Football Federation and Asian Football Confederation have agreed to postpone the joint second round of the World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers set this month and June due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, according to Philippine Football Federation general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes.
Gastanes said yesterday the world soccer body made the announcement late Monday in consultation with the AFC.
“Following consultation with Asia’s member associations, FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation have agreed to postpone the upcoming Asian qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” the world body said in a statement posted on the PFF website.
This meant the Philippine Azkals’ Group A home games against Guam and Maldives on March 26 and June 9, respectively, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum would be reset to later dates.
