46% find gov’t response to loss of jobs due to COVID inadequate


    MAJORITY of Filipinos found the government’s efforts to assist those who lost their jobs due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic “inadequate,” while close to a majority of Filipinos found the government efforts to provide the public with enough information about the virus and pandemic “adequate,” the September 17 to 20 survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.

    The survey, which involved 1,249 adult Filipinos nationwide with a sampling margin of error of ±3 percent, showed that 46 percent said they found government’s actions to help the jobless “inadequate” while 44 percent said it was “adequate,” which yielded a net adequacy score of -2 (percentage of adequacy minus percentage of inadequacy).

    SWS also found that 71 percent of the respondents believe that government efforts to ensure the public gets enough information was “adequate” and 22 percent found it “inadequate,” yielding a net adequacy score of +49.

    Sixty-seven percent of Filipinos said government efforts to ensure extensive contact tracing was “adequate while 23 percent said it was “inadequate,” resulting in a net adequacy rating of +43, while 54 percent said government’s actions to ensure availability of affordable coronavirus testing nationwide was “adequate” and 33 percent said it was “inadequate,” which resulted in a net adequacy score of +21.

    Across geographical areas, the net adequacy of government to assist the jobless was lowest in Metro Manila (-15), followed by Luzon (-2), Mindanao (-1), and the Visayas (+4); and lowest among women (-4) followed by those among men (-1).
